The BYD Seagull EV, which costs $11,400 or 78,800 Yuan (roughly INR 9.35 Lakh), has received over 10,000 orders in the first 24 hours. It has battery packs with a range of 305 km and 405 km, respectively.
The Seagull subcompact electric hatchback was officially unveiled at the Auto Shanghai 2023 by BYD, the largest EV manufacturer in the world. At the event itself, the company also began pre-sales of the B-segment hatchback. The BYD Seagull is the company's least expensive EV to date, costing $11,400 or 78,800 Yuan (roughly INR 9.35 Lakh).
In the brand's Ocean series, the Seagull joins the Seal sedan and the Dolphin small hatchback. With over 10,000 pre-orders on the first day after its auto show debut, the B-segment is already poised for great success.
The company's e-Platform 3.0, which also supports the Dolphin and Seal, is the foundation for the BYD Seagull. It has a front-mounted, 55-kilowatt (74 horsepower), electric motor. A 30-kilowatt-hour battery pack and a 38-kilowatt-hour battery pack are available, with a CLTC range of 305 kilometres and 405 kilometres, respectively.
The battery can be charged to 80% in about 30 minutes with either battery pack, and both battery packs support DC fast charging. A subcompact hatchback with a length under 4 metres, the BYD Seagull. Its dimensions are 3,780mm in length, 1,715mm in width, 1,540mm in height, and 2,500mm in wheelbase. In comparison to the BYD Dolphin, it is approximately 345mm shorter, 55mm narrower, and 30mm lower.
The BYD Seagull borrows its overall styling from the Dolphin hatchback, but it has a more eccentric appearance. It has a floating roof design, LED taillights with a connected LED light bar, a closed front face with sharp LED headlights, a large windscreen and a roof spoiler.
The Seagull's interiors are unique, featuring a dual-tone design with yellow accents on the AC vents. It has a freestanding 1.2.8-inch touchscreen infotainment screen with connectivity options and a 5-inch instrument console. The small electric vehicle has two cup holders, a wireless charging pad, and a steering wheel with three spokes and a flat bottom.
Launch of BYD Seagull in India?
In our market, BYD is currently selling the Atto 3 electric SUV and the e6 MPV. Before the end of this year, the company will introduce the Seal sedan as its flagship model in our market. We anticipate that the Seagull will be made available as the Chinese company's entry-level product. As it will be an affordable offering with a wider range, this production is likely to bring volumes for the business.
