Boosting India's Military Mobility: Indian Army Takes Delivery of Initial Batch of Toyota Hilux
Strengthening the forces! Indian Army receives the first batch of Toyota Hilux, designed for tough terrains and extreme weather conditions.
The Indian Army has taken delivery of the first batch of Toyota Hilux vehicles as part of its efforts to modernize the fleet and enhance mobility capabilities. After rigorous testing in challenging terrains and extreme weather conditions, Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta received the Mountain off-Road Vehicles. The vehicles were presented by Mr. V. Wiseline Sigamani, General Manager Strategic Business Unit (North) of the Army's Northern Command. The pre-delivery technical evaluation involved putting the cars through their paces in regions with a high elevation of 13,000 ft. and extremely low temperatures.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor provided the Mountain off-Road Vehicles, while the Indian Army also placed an order for 1,850 Scorpio Classic vehicles from Mahindra & Mahindra. The Toyota Hilux is renowned for its superior off-road capabilities, boasting features like a low-range transmission, four-wheel drive, and excellent terrain maneuverability. With a substantial water-wading capacity of 700 mm, the Hilux is a valuable addition to the Indian Army's fleet.
The new Toyota Hilux vehicles will gradually replace the aging Maruti Gypsy, which has served the Indian Army for many years. These modern vehicles are expected to bring a new era of mobility for the Army.
In addition to the Hilux delivery, the Indian military is also exploring the possibility of introducing electric cars. The Indian Air Force recently purchased 12 Tata Nexon EVs, signaling a potential shift towards sustainable and eco-friendly mobility solutions for the armed forces.
