Introducing the Redesigned Hyundai Sonata: A Bold Facelift with Striking Features

Hyundai has officially unveiled the Sonata facelift, which will only be offered in foreign markets. The sedan's exterior and interior have been completely redone, and it now resembles both the recently unveiled India-spec Verna and the company's flagship Grandeur luxury sedan. On March 30, the new Sonata will make its debut at the Seoul Mobility Show.

Exterior Design:

• The facelifted Sonata features a redesigned exterior compared to the previous model.
• It has split LED headlamps, a full-width LED Daytime Running Lamp bar, and angular extensions on the front grille, giving it a refreshed look.
• The sedan maintains its four-door coupe body type and has a strong shoulder line from the fender to the taillamps.
• The boot lid is shaped like a spoiler and extends across the boot, featuring a 'H'-shaped full-width LED lightbar and taillamps.
• The N Line version includes additional features such as a boot-lid spoiler, 19-inch alloy wheels, black wing mirrors, subtle N Line badging, and a quad exhaust system.
• The new design focuses on aerodynamics to enhance stability and fuel efficiency.

Interior Design:

• The interior of the Sonata has also undergone significant changes.
• It now features a driver-focused dashboard design with a 12.3-inch touchscreen and digital driver's display.
• The layout is reminiscent of new BMW models and includes a drive controller stalk and touch-based haptic controls for the HVAC system.
• The center console has an armrest that extends into it, adding to the overall aesthetics.

Technical Specifications:

• The powertrain specifications for the facelifted Sonata have not been officially announced.
• The pre-facelift model offered various petrol powertrains, including a plug-in hybrid variant.
• The outgoing N Line Sonata had a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine generating 290 horsepower and 422 pound-feet of torque, paired with an 8-speed DCT gearbox.
• It is expected that the updated Sonata and N Line variants will retain similar powertrain options as the previous model.

Hyundai Sonata in India:

• The Sonata was first introduced in India in 2001 and competed with the Honda Accord.
• Hyundai offered three different generations of the Sonata in India, with the second generation released in 2005 and a significant makeover in 2009.
• The third-generation Sonata, featuring Hyundai's "fluidic design" language, was launched in 2012.
• However, due to declining sales of D-segment sedans, the Sonata was discontinued in India in 2015.
