The incident happened on April 16th. After catching fire, the car became stuck in the middle of the road. A video of the Tata Nexon EV's disassembled front end has appeared online. The front-left quarter appears to be where the fire apparently started.
A statement from Tata Electric Mobility has just been released. Tata claims in the statement that the car was serviced at an unauthorized shop. The replacement of the left headlamp on the car was done incorrectly. The fire was started by a short circuit brought on by the job.
Tata Motors claims in a statement that:
"We are aware that during repairs, the left headlamps on this vehicle were freshly replaced at an unlicensed shop. As a result, a heat short was created and kept trapped for a long time. The fitting and repair techniques used by the unauthorized workshop were flawed, which caused an electrical problem in the headlamp spot and the subsequent thermal occurrence. There is a concentration of the damaged area only in the repair zone. We continue to collaborate closely with the client to offer all necessary assistance.

Last year, Nexon EV caught fire.
A Tata Nexon EV that was parked outside a restaurant in Mumbai caught fire in June 2022, with the fire starting from underneath the vehicle. The SUV's battery was thought to have been damaged and started the fire. Tata Motors issued a formal statement in response to the incident promising a thorough investigation. Additionally, the business assured the public that its products go through thorough testing.
It's important to note that the Tata Nexon EV continues to be India's top-selling electric vehicle in spite of the incident. Numerous things, including short-circuiting, problems with the battery management system, or overcharging, to name a few, could have led to the fire. In the past, reports of electric scooters from different manufacturers catching fire have been made.
